Sixth Form Art
over all I got an A for my As art work.
View points- Self Portraits
View points was the theme of my AS coursework, for this my teacher decided that we would specialise in self portraits. In this coursework I went really textural with my work, using multi media and being very tonal. I was greatly inspired by the work of Megan Frau, whose work is truly beautiful. she in fact only graduated from university at around the same time that I was finishing this project.
Rhythms and Cycles
This was the title for my As art exam work, it's a broad subject which could mean practically anything. Some people chose to look at the cycle of life, at music, festivals and so on. I chose to look at the Venice Carnival, as I was going away to Venice during the carnival time just a week after the project was set in early February 2010. When I was in Venice I took hundreds of photos of both the city and the people. If anyone ever has the chance to go I would highly recommend it, especially around carnival time. It was literally like entering a different world, it was so surreal. Everyone was in period costume, done up to look like the gentry of the 18-1900s, and yet when you looked closely you saw the headphones plugged in their ears, and speaking on their iphones. It really was an incredible sight.
For inspiration for this project I took inspiration on the Art Nouveau movement as well as taking inspiration from the artist Gustav Klimt, in-particular looking at his painting the kiss
